Decorating with Fragrance
When we decorate our homes, we focus on the modern dining sets, the wood or metal beds, the dressers…all of the big things. We then look at accessories and textures. All of these elements add up to a great décor, but there is one that we shouldn’t neglect: scent. Fragrance can be an integral component of any room, helping you make it more fresh, more cozy, more inviting, or more sensual. Choosing scents that complement the room is a great start. For instance, a warm apple and clove freshener (made simply on your stovetop) will be a perfect addition to your kitchen in the cooler months.
Candles are only one option for scent – but they are a great one because they add style and ambience as well. Other similar options include tart burners or essential oil warmers. Essential oils, which are more potent than candles, are great for the bedroom. A soothing lavender, for instance, can calm and help relieve headaches – perfect after a long day. Peppermint is an energizing scent, so this is great for the living room or bathroom, and sweet smells, like vanilla, or spicy, like cinnamon, can be great in the kitchen. Focusing on the big furnishings like wood or metal daybeds or chests is important, but don’t forget the little touches that make your home even more homey.
