Why Do Italians Love Metal Beds

You only have to be in Italy for a short period of time to realize that this is a place that takes tradition very seriously. From the stunningly beautiful frescos to the seemingly timeless architecture, Italy often appears to be a place time has left untouched for eons. In that same vein, the use of metal beds here is extraordinarily high. Perhaps it is the fact that wrought iron beds simply hold up better in the countries’ various climates or it could be that they are so associated with femininity and sophistication, they are the only choice that makes sense.

When most Americans or most folks who have never visited Italy think of the climate there, we automatically have images of Tuscany pop up. While it is true that southern Italy can be quite warm, the northern half of the country is covered in snowy mountain peaks. The skiing is so good here, this region recently hosted a Winter Olympics, but even here, in the Italian Alps, metal bedroom furniture is the likely choice to be in your ski lodge hotel room. In this instance, it is likely the romance many associate with a metal bed that has helped in the decision making.

Ah, Rome in the summertime. If you can find a place bereft of tourists, you can have a truly magnificent day here. One thing you will notice however, and this applies to the fanciest five star hotel room near the Vatican or at the local youth hostel, is that your room will come complete with a metal or iron bed. They are durable, beautiful and help to continue the true spirit of hospitality that Italy is known for.
