Single Pieces or Bedroom Sets: Which is Better for Your Child’s Room?

Children’s bedroom furniture can present a challenge, especially if you have limited space in which to place a bedroom set. It might seem feasible to purchase just single pieces and add to them as necessary to save room, but the reality is you are going to spend more money if you buy individual pieces of furniture. If you go to any furniture store and compare the prices of individual pieces you will discover there is a deep discount when you buy an entire set of children’s bedroom furniture instead of buying the individual pieces.

At the very least your child needs a bed and a chest of drawers which is usually all that actually comes with kids bedroom sets. The choices you make now will save you a great deal of money later because it will be several years before your child is ready for youth bedroom sets which may include a children’s or student desk. Certainly if your child has a closet with shelves for all of his or her clothes you might be able to forego the price of a chest of drawers and buy only a bed. However, keep in mind that as your child grows he will need more than shelves in a closet and at that point a single chest of drawers may cost as much as a single children’s bedroom set now.

In some cases you may be able to economically avoid buying an entire children’s bedroom set, especially if you are planning to buy bunk beds and your child already has a place to store his clothes. You also want to weigh the space factor. If you don’t have room for a chest of drawers you can invest in a kids storage bed and perhaps a small chest for little items of clothing such as underwear, pajamas and socks. The things you want to consider are how much room you have, your budget and how much storage your child needs for his clothes and toys.

Weigh the situation carefully before you buy any kids’ beds. You want to make sure you choose what your child might need or want rather than what you think they might want. Be smart and practical and stay away from things that are “cute.” You can always invest in bedding to portray a favorite character rather than spending a great deal of money on a kid’s bed that may only last for a couple of years. Even if your child has a large room you do not want to overburden it with oversized children’s bedroom furniture. For instance, there is no need to buy your little girl a full-size canopy bed—she is not likely to take it with her when she gets married. Choose one of the youth bedroom sets that are age-appropriate and will last for several years.

If you want something that will provide extra room, look toward one of the childrens storage beds or kids loft bed. You have extra room for extra clothes or toys without the expense of more than one chest of drawers. Practicality will provide the most storage at an economical price.
